Writing activity

There is one activity that I like the most as it always works. I do not know whether it has got a name or not, but I call it Expanding a sentence. A teacher writes a very simple sentence, and students have to expand it by adding words. Ther is a time limit - 3 minutes. A student with the longest sentence wins. He or she writes it on the board and other students try to find mistakes to make the sentence shorter. Sometimes up to 5 students need to present their sentences till the longest correct one is found. Students love pointing to the mistakes of their classmates, so this is quite an absorbative classroom activity.
