Topic: Inventions and Inventors
You
are asked to name the best invention ever. Find the information on the web
and fill in the table. Then present the data to your partner without naming
the invention itself. He/She must guess the invention. Feel free to ask and
answer each other questions if you need more information.

First, you have to print as
many worksheets as the number of students in the classroom. The aim of this
activity is to make a list of the best inventions ever. Tell students they must
follow the instructions and fill in the table in 5 minutes. Ask for
understanding(especially the last question – e. g. We use it for writing(a pen)
or It can help us get from one place to another(a car)).
Then, students have about 3
minutes to change their sheets with a partner and try to guess the invention.
They may ask and answer each other questions if they need more information.
After that, every student
names his/her partner’s variant of the best invention, and the teacher writes
each of it on the board. Some inventions may be named more than once – then we
get a list automatically. If it doesn’t happen, you should ask students to sort
the inventions out into groups (health care – comfort – bare necessities). Then
there will be a leading group of inventions.
You can have more activities
based on this one: debate, pros and cons, brain storm, guessing game, etc.
